Pat Dunn


A convalescing Grand Forks grandmother, whose husband of 40 years died in November after both got COVID and had strokes, is the focus of a Sat., April 2 benefit at Grace Baptist Church.

All proceeds from the benefit and accompanying online / mail fundraiser will be used to help Pat Dunn with medical and general expenses.

A freewill-offering spaghetti feed and accompanying silent auction are planned for the benefit, set for 5 to 8 p.m. April 2 in Grace Baptist's church gymnasium. The church is at 700 24th Ave. S., Grand Forks.

Pat Dunn, who's 63, remains in a Grand Forks care facility since returning this winter from a Fargo hospital, where she had been transferred after her November COVID illness and stroke.

Her husband, Tim, died the day before Thanksgiving. He had been admitted days earlier to Altru Hospital with the COVID virus. He would have turned 64 on Feb. 4.

Pat Dunn worked for 38 years at Home of Economy; she was a secretary in the accounting department. Tim Dunn had been a 13-year employee of Sterling Carpet One and for 20 years prior, Grand Forks Glass and Paint, Sterling's predecessor.

The Dunns married in August 1981 and have three adult sons, Allen, David and Stephen, all Grand Forks area residents; and three grandchildren, Trevor, Tyson and Brooke.

The Pat Dunn benefit / fundraiser is sponsored by Grace Baptist Church, the Dunns' church,  Home of Economy; Sterline Carpet One; and NDAD through the charitable nonprofit's free Community Fundraisers Program.

The obituary page for Timothy Allen Dunn

Timothy Allen Dunn was born Feb. 4, 1958, in Sydney,  Mont., to Dr. Lauren Allen (Doc) Dunn and Shirley Ester Seward. They moved to Ellendale, N.D.,shortly after Tim's 1st birthday when his father became Ellendale's veterinarian.
He graduated from Ellendale High School in 1976. He attended St. Paul Bible College 1976 and 1978 in St. Bonifacius, Minn.
In 1980, he began attending the University of North Dakota, where he met Patty L. Aipperspach. Tim married Patty, his best friend and the love of his life, on Aug. 15, 1981, in Wishek, N.D.
Tim worked at Sterling Carpet One for 13 years and its predecessor, Grand Forks Glass and Paint, for 20 years.  Tim also did yearly inventory at all of the Home of Economy stores in North Dakota. Patty worked at Home of Economy full time in the business office from 1983 to 2021.
Tim had a dry wit and was loved by everyone who knew him. He loved to play cards and dominoes and to grill out. He will be greatly missed by all his friends and family.
He volunteered for the Awana program at Grace Baptist while his three sons - Allen, born in 1985; David, born in 1987; and Stephen, born in 1988 - were attending Awanas. David and his wife, Heather, have two sons, Trevor, 6; and Tyson, 4; they attend Awanas now. They also have a daughter, Brooke, 2.
Tim's children, grandchildren and wife were the joy and sunshine of his life.
He was preceeded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife, three sons. three brothers and three sisters.
There will be a memorial of Tim's life at Grace Baptist Church in Grand Forks on Sat., April 9. The time will be announced soon.
