A Success Story Janice Williams Were you aware that diabetes affects 18.2 million people in the United States alone! While an estimated 13 milion have been diagnosed with diabetes, unfortunately, 5.2 milion people (nearly one-third) are unaware they have this disease.

For Janice Williams of Williston being diagnosed with diabetes was no real surprise, as diabetes is hereditary in her family. Jan's mother, maternal grandmother, maternal grandfather, aunt, and uncle all have diabetes. In 1987 Jan started having symptoms and was later diagnosed. She controls her diabetes by two oral medications and insulin injections.

A friend who had read an article about NDAD helping individuals with diabetic supplies referred her to NDAD. NDAD has assisted Jan with funding her medications and diabetic supplies (syringes, test strips, etc.). When asked how the items NDAD purchased for her had impacted her life her answer was, "NDAD helped me financilly afford the medications needed to keep my diabetes under control, they have helped relieve a lot of financial stress". She went on to say , "I have been very thankful for their friendly service and assistance in the management of my diabetes."

One of Jan's biggest challenges in her daily life is eating healthier, exercising, and losing weight. She says, "Diabetes is an expensive disease to keep under control. If you are prone to this condition through heredity, eat healthier and exercise to help manage diabetes before you have to use medication. If you are struggling financially with the medications, don't be afraid to contact NDAD. They are helpful, understanding, and professional. Without the help of NDAD I'm not sure what I would be doing right now. Thank you from the bottom of my heart NDAD! YOU ARE GREAT"."
